avid organics, certified and governed by The Soil Association is owned by avid *Organicker Karen.
After nurturing a successful organic café and box scheme in Huddersfield, Karen decided that her true passion lay with the
pro-active promotion of the British Organic Farming Industry.
In 2008 she sold her beloved café, reinvested the proceeds and developed the existing box scheme into the best in Yorkshire!** (now known as avid organics).
Things to be avid about
Karen’s extended experience of customers’ organic expectations enabled the creation of a scheme which stands apart from the rest.
So what makes avid so different? Well for a start we don’t
just sell fruit and vegetables (as tasty as they are). As well as bread, eggs and cheese, we also supply organic whole foods, earth friendly cleaning products and organic beer and wine.

What’s more we give you choice. We don’t dictate your box contents. You can opt for carefully selected avid boxes, (which you can customize), or you can ‘pick your own’. So, if you have a thing for asparagus….fill your boots, order as much as you want! (But be quick, the British asparagus season only lasts six weeks!)
We also give you several delivery options. You don’t need hang around for us. By telling us your ‘safe place’ we can drop your box whilst you are out. Or (and this is our little gem) we can deliver to you and several of your friends at work. Not only does this limit environmental damage, through fewer delivery addresses, but you also earn a big fat discount. Go to avid Help the Earth Scheme for more info.
avid About organics
So why organic? Extensive research has proven that mass production and ingestion of pesticide sprayed fruit, vegetables and grains, are not only harmful to our long term health, but also the environment. Organic produce provides essential nutrients that are believed to be powerful enough to fight off illnesses, such as cancer. In addition, blind tests reveal organic produce to be far superior in taste. Yes, some things may look little ugly, but as the saying goes…beauty is only skin deep.
avid Ethics
Vital to avid ethics is that the bulk of our produce is sourced in the UK, or as near to it as possible. It doesn’t make sense to care about polluting our bodies and earth with pesticides, to then emit tons of carbon by flying crops from the other side of the world!
We aim to give British farmers a fair deal to help sustain the UK industry and encourage small independent producers to jump on the organic band wagon.
Although it's difficult for us to tell you the exact source of produce prior to delivery, (organic supplies from growers are dependant on last minute weather, crop/harvesting issues and customer demand), we WILL assure provenance after delivery. If you pick your own box, the displayed country of origin information gives you the opportunity to make your own informed choices.
avidly Hungry
In Britain a period of time during the first few weeks of spring, is known as 'The Hungry Gap' due to the gap in UK crop supplies. Most of the available produce has been stored from winter harvests, making it impossible to supply bountiful UK boxes. During this time we may need to look further a field for produce. Our guarantee is that we will NEVER supply air freighted produce and only ever use European crops as a last resort. You will, of course, be informed of any necessary alterations.
avid order deadline is
Midnight each
Thursday. Completed orders placed up to this time will be delivered the next
consecutive Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, (or at a later date, if requested). Orders received after Midnight each Thursday will not be processed and delivered until the following week, (or at a later date, if requested).
